The Evil SCGS Girl

It's old, some might have seen it, but I thought it hilarious. This goes out to SC girl(s) I know (erm, Sarah, Jazlyn, Clara... Who else is there?)

Also possibly applicable to the other girls' schools. More cartoons available at currently-defunct The Students' Sketchpad

SMRT - YOU'RE F'ED!

An ugly side of SMRT, as I found out from MrBrown.com, a study of the annual report of SMRT Corp.

From zm. the studious bloke,

"i shall briefly list the business objectives of the group:

- maximise shareholder value
- provide safe, reliable and friendly travel experience at affordable prices
- leverage core expertise in operations and maintenance for trains and related infra
- maximise non-fare revenue through rental, advertising and engineering businesses
- enhance and sustain high standards in corporate governance

[continued]...

from the annual report, passenger trips have increased 11% from 2002 - 389.7m to 434.9m. However, car kilometres operated dropped from 81.4m to 77.1m. SMRTC has been aggressively cutting costs by cramming as much as people into each train and reducing frequencies since 2004, to maximise shareholder value. Thus, what is observed is simply increasing ridership, yet the supply of trains remained the same, and even dropped.

on the buses side, this what SMRT had to say:

'service schedules were refined to optimise operating costs. This included school holiday
schedules to match changes in student travel patterns, split-shift duties for services with distinctively high demand during peak hours, and parking of split-shift buses at interchanges to reduce off-service mileage.'"

Mr Brown says: "If the analysis is correct, then the formula seems to be:

More passengers + less frequency = more money to be made = pissed off passengers (who will be ignored)."

This is most certainly upsetting, considering that the public transport system has been receiving much criticism as of late, ranging from taxi price hikes to an inefficient transport crisis management. I seriously think the objectives are so screwed.

Of Vampires, Werewolves and Top Friends

After being in Facebook and studying it as work (ahem!) for the past four months, I really thought that Facebook is "DA' THANG" in terms of social networking, and for businesses to really reach the masses of their target audience. I mean, one simple ad on say, the Singapore network, you could have a lot of people viewing it! I'm not exactly sure of the costs for an ad, but if it ain't too expensive the CPM will definitely be low.

Alas, but it was not meant to be.

Business execs snub Facebook

CIO Jury: Too many "silly applications"…

"Social networking website Facebook is being snubbed by professional executives because of the increasing number of "silly applications" and lack of business use.
...
He said: "It doesn't strike me as being a business tool. I am signed up to LinkedIn and Plaxo. LinkedIn seems to be used most by the people I know, and does seem to generate useful connections or re-connections. Plaxo doesn't seem to do much for me, apart from provide the promise that my contacts are backed up somewhere."
...
He said: "I actually don't use it all that much as I get irritated at the constant stream of silly applications. I also have concerns about its default privacy settings. I am also on LinkedIn and Plaxo, but haven't actively developed my network. I'm not sure whether that's laziness, lack of time, or failure to prioritise my own future opportunities.""

Maybe these guys aren't looking at the younger audience/customer group. But you've got to agree, the number of application invites that are spammed on people is just insane! Personally I add what I feel is enough for the profile page, without lagging the page when I actually want to see my profile. Superpoking, Werewolves, Vampires, whatever; it is pretty much. I personally have about 230+ pending invites for random applications (cleared 400+ before this). Can't anyone just press the "SKIP" button when it comes to sending invites?

I question the seriousness because of how people even actually use Facebook. Would we really pay attention to ads? The question is then, is Facebook really overrated?

Which JC has the hottest students?

From STOMP,

Stop drooling, people... (no I am not drooling.)

Think there is a shot of Sarah's friend Viola on the page.

Not that I think I'm handsome or anything, but sorry, the winners don't look like it. I shall not criticise directly, because it's not exactly fair, but seriously did they win by personality, or was it another one of those SMS-voting contests?

Youngsters behaving more and more intimately..

From the STOMP forum,

"intimacy is a very private thing...its done with someone u love n tobe enjoyed too. ...youngsters are doing it too openly...at their tender age, wonder whether they r serious abt the relationship in the first place...and eh, r they enjoying it or r they doing it for others to enjoy (watching) ???... "

I don't mean to be rude, but intimacy isn't really the issue. It's the public display that is a bigger problem, which I think, well it basically feels weird. Yes, it may be the 21st century, but I'd think the best thing is, if you want to do it, then don't let the world see. Affections aren't for show.

My gawd, aren't those two looking very young?! But then again, maybe that's what everyone else thought of my age people when they were around there.

Now that couple gains some fame. Hoho.

Machinima

Ever heard of Machinima? Basically, it's the name of videos created using games. Using a visual recorder, game scenes are recorded and editted with real human voices, so that a whole new movie can be made altogether. Some of these popular shows have even yielded a DVD release, and truth is, you don't really have to play the game to even understand the comedy (sometimes).

Find out more at Machinima.com where there are tutorials on building your own scenes and also different shows uploaded by people. Here's one from the popular Red Versus Blue series, from Halo.

Unprofessional = Fired!

Some of you might have seen this video before; a Belgian talk show that goes horribly wrong. The host loses his composure and bursts out in laughter at the guest on the show. Shall not elaborate too much about it, but you can find out more from its Wiki page.

Warpten

Ok, so revamp was quicker than expected, and I could begin the real postings.

Some of you might have seen this, but for those who didn't, here it is.
Photobucket

Ok, so now I begin the actual blogging of stuff. I like this plain simple template, no more FAILED scrolling marquee of photos, so here it is, the new Plastic-Memory.

One post per entry of stuff I would blog. I try to blog as much as I can. Just check previous posts if possible. I hope this blog becomes something useful. Let's go!

Corporate Revamp

Not exactly corporate, but yes, a revamp is imminent. It's not just down to the template of the blog, but more of what to post. Lesser life stuff, more pictorials, more newsy material. Though nobody may care, but at least I can feel knowledgeable when I lose my memory and one day stumble upon the oh-so-informative plastic-memory.blogspot.com. Yes, I'm crazy. Hahaha!

Generally, I think I just have to blog more, and maybe offer more interesting stuff other than just boring life stuff. All this, in hope that I could even improve my writing, but I'm hoping it isn't futile!

So before I close down the settings and all that, here's a "poster", which just proves boredom for me, and more of a re-visit to Photoshop-ing.

Photobucket

The image is kind of ugly, but will be subjected to changes when I actually go through the main revamp. Trailer, you know.
